How to split a PDF, end to end.

Four clicks from a dropzone on this page to a trimmed PDF in your Downloads folder. You never leave the tab.

  1. Drop your PDF on this page.

Drag it from your desktop or click to browse. It uploads encrypted. We can't see it.
  2. Pick the pages you want.

Type page numbers like 1-5, 8, 12 — or click the thumbnails on the side. Whichever is faster for you.
  3. Click Split.

We pull out the pages you picked and rebuild them as one clean PDF. Takes seconds.
  4. Download. We forget.

Your split PDF lands in Downloads. Our copy is deleted within the hour. Nothing to clean up later.

What you can actually do on this page.

Four honest moves you can finish in the browser you're already in. No Adobe, no signup, no half-features held behind a paywall.

  • Pick by page number.

    Need pages 2–7? Type 2-7. Need 1, 4, and 9? Type those.

  • Pick visually.

Thumbnails on the side — click the ones you want to keep.

  • One file out, or many.

Keep the chosen pages as one PDF, or split each page into its own file.

  • Doesn't break quality.

Same resolution going out as coming in.

Why people choose Pdf Clarity

  • Fast and free

Editing, annotating, signing, merging and splitting are free with no signup. Your first upload opens the editor in seconds.

  • Works in any browser

Open the editor in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge on Mac, Windows, Linux or Chromebook. You never install anything.

More ways to split a PDF

Extract pages from PDF

Pick one page or a handful and export them as a standalone PDF. You can enter any combination of page numbers and short ranges in one pass.

Split PDF by page range

Use range syntax like 1-5 or 12-30 to carve out the section you need. Your exported PDF contains exactly those pages in the original order.

Split large PDFs

Got a long report and only need the appendix? Pick the last chapter's page range and skip the first hundred pages — your smaller file leaves faster and loads faster.

Split PDFs without signup

You don't need an account, an email, or a trial to split your PDF. Upload, pick pages, download — that's the whole flow.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what people ask us most about editing a PDF online for free. Tap any question and the answer expands inline.

Is it really free? What's the catch?
There isn't one. Splitting, merging, editing, signing — all free, for as long as you need them. No signup, no watermark, no "upgrade to unlock." Pro exists for people doing this for work every day; if that's not you, you never see it.
Can I split by page range, or only one at a time?
Either. Type a range like 1-5, 8, 12 to pull a mixed list in one pass, or click a single thumbnail to grab one page.
Will the split PDF have a watermark?
Never. Not on free, not on Pro, not ever.
Will the split PDF lose quality?
No. We don't re-encode — the pages you pull out are the same resolution, fonts, and images as the original.
What happens to my file after I'm done?
Deleted within one hour of upload. Encrypted in transit and at rest. Never read by a human, never shared, never used to train anything.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Only if you have the password. Run Unlock PDF first (free, linked below), then come back here and split.
How big a PDF can I split?
Up to 100 MB free. If you need bigger — a 500-page scan, for instance — the Pro tier handles up to 500 MB.
Does it work on an iPad, Chromebook, or phone?
Yes. Any browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. The thumbnail picker works on touch; typing a page range is smoother on a laptop.
Do I need to sign up, create an account, or enter an email?
No, no, and no. The button says "Drop your PDF here" — that's the whole onboarding.
